No matter the state of origin, a student always considers the possibilities of an out-of-state school. Among some of the pros and cons are financial aspects, traveling and the majors available in other colleges.

There are other cons to going to an out-state college, the cost of it for example. Higher cost and less probabilities to get a grant or scholarship, and the student will not be eligible for financial aid for residents until after a year. Other negative aspects could be the cost of coming home for visits, and the family will be taking out of state its economic boost.

From the psychological aspect of leaving home it can be argued that leaving home in such a drastic way may not be taken well by every student and or family. The student will be leaving family and old friends and close teachers that may be of help in the professional and personal growth of the person.

It is important to mention that staying in a local College drives economy to that state, at the same time it gives way to the possibility of obtaining financial help towards higher education. Also staying home while going to college may prevent the family and student from expending on rent, gasoline, food. Staying close home may also be good for the future professional as he or she learns to make sacrifices towards education.

For some, going out of state to earn an education represents learning and experiencing new things and meeting new people. Networking in a new environment away from home could be a good learning experience for some students. Specialized degree options may be available in out state colleges. In any event, it is good to start researching about in and out-of-state colleges before a decision is made. To keep things in prospective, have a questionnaire before choosing a college, to guide oneself during the decision process. A few questions to keep in mind are:

- Can we afford it? It is the most important question it defines whether or not a particular is a good idea in terms of financial capability.

- How far is the college under the microscope? Again parents like to have their children closer rather that far. An it is a decision to make as a family.

- What is the class like, and how do the rest of the students treat their education? It is recommended to sit in a classroom and take notes to discover what to expect. During colleges touring take a moment to sit in a class.
